Sol Dayz Snowboard Camp

January 13, 2010

SOL DAYS

SOL DAYZ is a snowboard camp held every year right after Christmas every year at Bromley “The Sun Mountain” in Southern Vermont. The camp is hosted by the Bromley Outing Club and backed by a number of sponsors such as Rome Snowboards, Snowboarder Magazine, Snowboard Rev, Rossignol and 93 94. The camp is was created to get the youth inspired to take their on snow skills further than they thought possible in two days of instructional freestyle cruising. Bromley has the best terrain on the East Coast, its Southern Vermont’s best kept secret. You can find some of the funnest mountain laps with hidden natural features to slide and bonk the whole way down. Olympic Half Pipe Champ Ross Powers makes it out every year to psyching out the kids taking mountain runs with them and making  new friends with each and every one of them. All proceeds from the camp went directly into the Ross Powers Foundation, a program that helps out under privileged riders reach their goals in snowboarding.

Heres a camper getting at the East Coast pow that dropped all week long, freezing cold but the best damn snow in the east.

“The Devil Made Me Do It”- The Neckface Photo Journal

December 21, 2009

I’ve always been big into Neckface, after his first book release in 2004 “Satan’s bride!!!” I was pysched to see what his new Photo Journal “The Devil Made Me Do It” was all about. The book features an intro by KAWS and a killer write up  by Carlo McCormick. Contributing photographers include Erik Foss, Jerry Hsu, Ako Jefferson, Atiba Jefferson, Norman Lendzion, Athena Razo, Giovanni Reda and Chris Shonting. This book was released fallowing Neckface’s solo show “Devil’s Disciple” in Miami two months ago.

Those are just a few clips of the 156 pg. book. Definitely worth picking one up, my brother came through early this christmas and hooked me up, the best present I’ll get this year for sure.

Thrasher’s S.O.T.Y PARTY

December 13, 2009

Thrasher Skateboard Magazine
After being awarded Thrasher Magazine’s Skater Of the Year back in 2005, Chris Cole took S.O.T.Y for 2009. Chris now joins Danny Way as a 2 time S.O.T.Y winner. Chris rep’d skateboarding harder than anyone this year, with his win at Wallenberg (switch frontside flip and backside 360 ollie), crowned 2009 Dew Tour Skatepark Champion and winning the heavy game of flat ground SKATE  round 2 at the Berrics. Chris accomplished more this year than most will in their entire professional career. He also made the covers of June’s Skateboard Mag and Thrashers August issue.
Check out this video by Thrasher, its footage from last Friday Dec. 11 at their Skater Of The Year Party, there is some good party mini ramp skating, the best kind of skating.

Park City Laps

December 9, 2009

Opening Week @ Park City from Eddie Grams on Vimeo.

Park City has it going on right now with a two full ledge early season parks. Early season riding usually consists of a few sliders and some jersey booters, NOT here. Park City has a triple line that is mellow enough for  you to dial in some spins and get your legs back under you. They got some unique features to trick on like the medicine ball and the wooden goal post, both of which are super fun to plant on. There are also some wall rides, flat boxes, picnic tables and bonks to get wicked on, so if your in Salt Lake or Utah for that matter go take some laps at PC.

U.S. Olympic Snowboard Team Uniform

December 7, 2009

Burton goes with the their version of the  ”grunge look”  for the 2010 U.S. Olympic snowboard team uniform design. The pants were designed to look like  real, worn, vintage denim, much like  jeans you would find at Abercrombie or Hollister. The jackets feature a “CHAD PLAID” design, both pieces feature Gore-Tex fabric.

“For the creation of the US Snowboard Team uniform, we listened carefully to the riders’ needs and used their input to ensure that the final fit, fabrics and overall design would maximize their performances and take these riders to the podium. It was also absolutely critical to ensure these Olympic uniforms were worthy of bearing the Burton name.” says Jake Carpenter founder of Burton Snowboards.

SKELETON CREW “GROUP EFFECT” has my vote for video of the year!

December 3, 2009

Group Effect from Skeleton Crew on Vimeo.

The debut of this film has been long awaited, released about two weeks ago as a free download,  Skeleton Crew’s Group Effect came in hot. It delivers that anti-film feel much like the Thrasher beer series flicks in skating. No contest jocks, just friends having the best time ever on the snow. In my mind this is what snowboarding really is and this film highlights the “fun” of slashing, no bullshit here. Grab a thirty rack, call the buddies over, shot gun a few and check out what’s going on with Skeleton Crew.
